BREAKING NEWS: Today, the IDF targeted Ahmed Jabri, the head of Hamas’ military wing, in the Gaza Strip. Jabri was a senior Hamas operative who served in the upper echelon of the Hamas’ command and was directly responsible for executing terror attacks against Israel in recent years.
According to an IDF website, “the purpose of this operation was to severely impair the command and control chain of the Hamas leadership, as well as its terrorist infrastructure. This was a surgical operation in cooperation with the Israeli Security Agency, that was implemented on the basis of concrete intelligence and using advanced capabilities.”
Gaza’s terror groups continued to fire Israel’s southern cities overnight and on Thursday. Three Israelis – two men and a woman – were killed in the morning when a rocket hit an apartment building in the southern city of Kiryat Malachi.
The victims didn’t make it to the fortified stairwell in their building, which did not have a viable shelter. Two people were seriously injured, one boy was moderately hurt and two infants sustained light wounds. Several others suffered panic attacks. Another building in the city was directly hit, but no injuries were reported. Hamas’ military wing accepted responsibility for the attacks.
Egypt has begun preparations for “emergency events” in the Sinai amid Israel’s military operation against the Gaza Strip, Israeli daily Jerusalem Post reported.
The Israeli daily cited Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram as saying Thursday that “the [Egyptian] army had put in place measures to deal with any acts aimed at the border.”
“Border guards had increased their presence near the border with Israel in accordance with instructions issued by their commanding officers on Wednesday,” the report said.
“Military hospitals in Sinai were also standing by ready to cope with anyone injured near the border.”
Israel on Wednesday launched a major military operation in the Gaza Strip, leading to an exchange of fire between the Jewish State and Hamas that has left at least 17 Palestinians and three Israelis dead.
The IDF Spokesman, Brig. Gen. Yoav Mordechai, announced on his Facebook page that “A harsh blow has landed upon Hamas’s command and control array, as the IDF hit Ahmed Jaabari, the head of the military wing of Hamas in Gaza, who headed the organization and dealt directly with carrying out terror attacks against Israel.
“We are at the beginning of a wide scale attack, in view of the unbearable situation of the residents of the South,” he added.
“While we are not talking about conquering all of Gaza,” Mordechai told Channel 2, “there is preparation for a ground operation as well, which will be undertaken if it is necessary. The required military units that need to be diverted for such an operation are at the ready,” he said.
“The occupation has opened the gates of hell on itself,” said a statement from Hamas’s Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, which vowed its terrorists would “continue the path of resistance.”
