You can say that twice. And Morsi did. Because Obama has been really, really helpful.

“President Obama has been very helpful, very helpful,” Morsi told Time Magazine. “And I can say really that his deeds coincide with his intentions.”

Sure, just ask anyone trying to earn a living.

Meanwhile the Obama Administration is taking a strong line in favor of the protesters and against Morsi’s power grab. A line almost as strong as the one they took on the Iranian uprisings. It’s almost like Obama Inc. favors tyrannies, so long as they are Islamist tyrannies.

As we called for last week, when confronted with concerns about the decree that he issued, President Morsi entered into discussions with the judiciary, with other stakeholders in Egypt. As I said, I think we don’t yet know what the outcome of those are going to be, but that’s a far cry from an autocrat just saying my way or the highway.

I hear Prime Minister Chamberlain will be suing the State Department for plagiarism.

The White House lavished praise on Morsi for his role in the ceasefire and has appeared to tip-toe around a full condemnation of his apparent power grab since then. Press Secretary Jay Carney has said the administration is “concerned” and has expressed those concerns to Egyptian officials. But asked on Monday if that equated to a condemnation, Carney demurred.

“I don’t have any new language to give to you today on how our view on it — what our view on it is,” he said. “I would say that we are concerned about it and have raised those concerns.”

He characterized the situation as an internal conflict to be solved by Egyptians.

Calling it an “internal conflict” is code for “we will allow the regime to do whatever it wants without interference.” So yes, Obama is being very helpful indeed.

Morsi stood in Cairo’s al-Azhar mosque and offered unwavering support to Hamas and threatened Israel with violent retribution.

The elected head of a nation made threatening statements toward Israel. His organization called for jihad and celebrated a bus bombing in Tel Aviv.  The United States then hailed Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi as a statesman and a moderate last week.  True, he did help bring about a cessation of Hamas rocket fire from Gaza. But in doing so, he wasn’t trying to advance American objectives or the cause of peace.
